Journey through south Florida searching for beautiful and rare birds in ancient moss-covered cypress swamps, everglades prairies that join the sky and brilliant marshes that sparkle with flashes of roseate wings. Keynote speaker, guide and author: Richard Crossley       Richard Crossley is the famous photographer and author of the monumental The Crossley ID Guides will be the Keynote Speaker at the 10th Anniversary Opening Reception. His topic will be Past, Present and Future and will include a BOOK SIGNING and sale of his new field guide WATERFOWL. The Opening Reception include a light buffet, raffle and prizes for festival registrants.
Past, Present and Future
      Tales of lessons learned while growing up in the wild British birding scene, from travels around the world, to living in Japan and settling down in his birding utopia, Cape May, NJ. It will be a fast-paced story told in an English brogue, through a camera lens that loves color and art, but with a strong point of view.
      With humor and depth Richard will also highlight the thoughts behind the revolutionary 'The Crossley ID Guides.'' But is changing how we look at books and birds enough? "Heck, no!" says Richard.
      Come and listen to his optimistic outlook for birding, lifestyles and conservation.

GETTING THE BEST SHOT with Richard Crossley – Green Cay & Wakodahatchee
Join this select group of lucky people by spending the day with the famous and funny Richard Crossley. Green Cay and Wakodahatchee wetlands provide very close views of a variety of species and allow you to GET THE BEST SHOT. Richard's will share his expertise in the field to improve your ability to photograph target species. Richard is the author and photgrapher of the monumental Crossley ID Guides: Eastern Birds, Raptors and the NEW Waterfowl. ($175)

CORKSCREW & PRAIRIES: Corkscrew Swamp is a "must" see in south Florida with 2-mile board walk and legendary beauty. There is a chance of Painted Bunting, Barred Owl, Limpkin, Night Herons and more. We'll visit the nature centers' exhibits and nature store. On Seminole Indian lands-Snake Road there is a chance for Crested Caracara, Wild Turkey, Sandhill Cranes, Northern Harrier, Wilson Snipe and shorebirds. ($90)

PALM BEACH WETLANDS, Wakodahatchee, Green Cay & Okeeheelee: The Palm Beach wetlands are the best places to see lots of birds quickly. At Wakodahatchee wetlands you can find Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, American Bittern, and Neotropic Cormorant. You will be within touching distance to nesting Great Blue Herons and Double-crested Cormorants feeding their young and much more. Green Cay wetlands' attracts Limpkin, Purple Gallinule, & Sora. Its feeder is famous for Painted Buntings. At Okeeheelee you will see Brown Thrasher, Indigo and Painted Buntings, and a view of rehabilitated Raptors up close. Field trip includes van transportation, yummy lunch, bottle water, and snacks. ($90) 8 required min.

SOUTH DADE HOTSPOTS: Old Cutler Wetlands and Dump Marsh look for Short-tailed Hawk, cowbirds, shorebirds & more . At Blackpoint Marina-Mangrove Cuckoo and Prairie Warbler. Castellow Hammock for Painted Bunting, Ruby-throated & Rufous Hummingbird. Possible stop at A.D.Barnes or exotics. ($90) 8 required min.

WATERFOWL, BIRDING & PHOTOGRAPHY with Richard Crossley – Stormwater Treatment Area 5
Do you like photographing the birds you see? Famous Photographer Richard Crossley and author of The Crossley I.D. Guides will conduct this birding and photo field trip. His new field guide is on waterfowl and STA 5 is the best place to see them. Richard's style of photography has created a new type of field guide which has dramatically changed how birders identify birds. He photographs birds in flight, on perches, in flocks, floating on the water and every other way you can see a bird in the field. LEARN FROM THE BEST. ($175)

STORM WATER TREATMENT AREA 5 & CENTRAL PRAIRIES: Everglades Restoration at its best at S.T.A. 5 targeting Snail Kite, American Bittern, Limpkin, Purple Gallinule, Wood Stork, Crested Caracara, Peregrine Falcon, Roseate Spoonbill, Fulvous whistling duck, up to 10 species of wintering ducks and 50,000 birds. Chance for Painted Bunting, Sandhill Crane and many flycatchers. ($90)

SOUTH DADE EXOTICS & TROPICAL FORESTS: South Dade is home to some of the most sought after birds: Red-whiskered Bulbul, Spot-breasted Oriole, and Hill Myna. A stop at AD Barnes for wintering warblers, possible White-crowned Pigeon, and Bell's Vireo. Matheson Hammock has a variety of Parakeets, Parrots, shorebirds and more. Searching many areas in South Miami for a variety of exotic birds and more. ($90) 8 required min.

Dinner Out

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK (late return): The ENP tour will start at Lucky Hammock for White-tailed Kite, Grasshopper Sparrow, up to 10 species of raptors and wintering warblers. A quick stop at the visitors center for a peek. Anhinga trail offers close views of wading birds, Purple Gallinules and Short-tailed Hawk. A picnic lunch at Long Pine Key can bring Eastern Bluebird, Brown-headed Nuthatch and Eastern Towhee. A few quick stop at Paurotis, Mrazek, and Eco-Ponds for Roseate Spoonbills and much more. At Flamingo look on the sandbar for Black Skimmer, Reddish Egret, White Pelican, Marbled Godwit and many shorebirds. The easiest place in the U.S. to see Crocodiles can be found at Flamingo. Schedule may vary on tide and rare bird alerts. ($90) DINNER will be at a local restaurant.

UPPER KEYS NATURE ADVENTURE: A drive across Card Sound to North Key Largo is our best chance for White-crowned Pigeon and Cuban Yellow Warbler. John Pennekamp State Park will include a short hike in the one of the U.S.'s most endangered habitats - tropical hardwood forest and time to see the displays and aquarium of the U.S.'s only coral reef system. A late lunch at the world's famous Alabama Jack's waterfront restaurant for conch fritters & chowder to get the real atmosphere of the Keys. It is a great way to end the festival. ($90)
